Cables – Numero Tres

Number 3: Weaving Talks

This last piece of my Cables collection is a short film in which I represent the way communication (which passes through cables) is inter-weaved as are the strings in a fabric. This is my final conclusion: fashion and cables are all about communication.

Thanks to all my friends that helped me in the making of this video.

Cables – Numero Dos

Number Two: Interlaced Vest

I made this vest using cables and insulating tape. I weaved the cables just as a fabric is made by woven strings. This is a resemblance of how a cable can be related to fashion, using it as a raw material weaving and molding it to give shape to the body and make a wearable garment out of it.

Cables

In the following three days I’ll be sharing with you a 3 piece art project that I did to apply for fashion school. The challenge here was to find something in my environment that people usually don’t notice. I chose cables. Why?

When I was younger, my school was really far away from home and during the whole ride I laid down and watched the sky through the window and I was so intrigued by the way cables appeared as if they were lines moving and creating different patterns.

What I did was explore the way a cable relates to fashion and to humans.

Number One: Cablirls

These are nine ‘cablirls‘ (cable + girls),  all in different looks and different hair styles: the bride, the LBD chic, the sporty, the downtown girl, the summer girl, the beach lover, the red carpet glamorous, the city girl and the girl next door. They are all made out of a piece of copper cable either white, black or red. These are a representation of how a cable is similar to a person. A simple copper cable consists of the inner copper strings and the outside plastic cover. The inner copper strings are what transfers the information and energy and where everything happens, this to me is comparable to the human body. The outside cover is in charge of distinguishing the cable, giving it an identity, covering and protecting it. That is what clothes do for us.

Acceptance: let position affect my condition

These next drawings have a really deep meaning for me and are a true expression of myself. They were done during this past summer; before and through the process of doing them I learned a lot about myself and my Lord. Charcoal and paper.

Imagination/Negation

For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. Now if I do what I will not to do,it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

Romans:7:18-24

Acceptance

Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.

Romans 6:6

Reality

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Galatians 2:20

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

Glory to Him.

But who can discern their…

But who can discern their own errors? Forgive my hidden faults. Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me.

Prom Dress

Last year I decided to take the challenge of designing and making my high school prom dress. Without any training on neither sewing nor design I got my self into a big project. At the end all the hard work was worth it. I didn’t just enjoy my prom night feeling beautiful with my gown, but I learned so much about sewing, beading and pattern making during the process. This was my final sketch:

Complete view from the front…

…from the back.

Close ups…

A more detailed look at the beading…

This has been my biggest project as an aspiring fashion designer until now. Now that I’m actually learning at school about what I love, I hope to be making much more. The sad thing was I forgot to take a complete view picture of myself wearing the dress, but I’ll be having a photo shoot soon and hopefully will be uploading those later.

Lycra: Future Designers

Lycra Future Designer is a contest for fashion students all around the country; this is the first time it took place in Mexico. As freshman in the fashion design career, it was obligatory to participate. We were meant to design a lingerie ensemble with the theme of our choice but inspired in the modern woman. This is my final sketch:

I was inspired by the inner structure of the leaves. I related how the lingerie is the support for the woman’s body as so is the structure of the leaves.

Quinciañera Cake

This is a fondant cake made by my little sister for her friend’s 15th birthday party.

A closer look…

The process…

These are my mom’s hands, she helped my sister giving the rose petals a realistic texture using a sponge.

Isn’t it beautiful? This was the first fondant cake she ever made and the first payed job she ever had. Unfortunately I didn’t get to taste it.

Art Exhibition: ¿Aisle or Window? by Hugo Garza

On December 8 was the inauguration of Hugo Garza’s latest art exhibition with the title: ¿Aisle or Window? The artist does his work while sitting in an airplane and flying up in the sky. He began doing this because it is an extraordinary way of using the time he has in the hundreds of flights he has to take for his job as a business man. I really admire this artist, I’ve never seen something similar and its just amazing how he can manage to find a way to do what he loves in spite of the big and hard demands of his job. This was the invitation to the opening event in the art gallery ‘La Maquina’ in Monterrey, Mexico.

This is a painting called “Egolanding”. If you take a close look you will find the artist’s profile.

More pieces.

A friend of mine holding the flyers.

I encourage you to check out this artist. He’s about to reach the 1000th on-plane art piece (meaning almost a thousand flights).

Here’s the web site:
